Amarie is a native Texan and is working toward disseminating compassionate focused behavior analysis in New Zealand. She currently works as Director of the Behavior Analysis Program at the University of Waikato, New Zealand, and a research affiliate at Victoria University of Wellington. She is a doctorate-level Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA-D) and has over 15 years of experience working in the field of behavior analysis and autism and developmental disabilities. Her research is focused on developing interventions to help individuals develop autonomy within their environments and increase their overall quality of life. Her research interest can be classified into two overlapping categories (1) communication, and (2) adaptive skills. In addition to her scholarly work, she also serves as chair for the Society of Behaviour Analysis, Aotearoa, New Zealand. When Amarie is not teaching students or nerding out on research, she is taking her dog hiking, gardening, or seeing live music.

Amarie has specialized knowledge in communication (verbal behavior) and is also an expert in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems used to support communication development for children with complex communication needs.
Amarie also specializes in adaptive skills, such as sleep and toileting.
As a former special education teacher and behavior specialist, she has worked with service providers (e.g., teachers, carers, community supports) as a consultant and coach to help support systems of change.
Amarie has had the opportunity to work as an academic faculty at serval universities in the United States and abroad. Previous appointments include the Victoria University of Wellington, University of Texas at San Antonio, and the University of North Texas.
In addition to her academic work, she currently serves as Associate Editor of the research journal, Advances in Neurodevelopmental Disorders, serves on the human research ethics committee at the University of Waikato, and the Chair for the Society of Behavior Analysis, Aotearoa New Zealand.
