Self-management coaching is a type of 1:1 behavioral therapy in which a qualified professional helps an autonomous adult (18 years or over) learn to manage and change a specific set of behaviors. For example, many self-management clients are interested in increasing their health-behaviors such as exercising and eating right, while decreasing things like checking their phones, watching TV, or scrolling social media. Additional examples might include decreasing negative self-talk, while increasing self-acceptance.
Self-management services are only available to autonomous adults (aged 18 years and older) who are motivated to change their own behavior, and understand that this means accepting help from an expert. Sessions are different than talk therapy and typically include homework and reporting data between sessions. Self-management coaching may occur in a variety of formats including in-person and telehealth sessions.
