During most of his career, Einar has focused on two areas of research and application: (1) Interventions
to improve language and communication (i.e., verbal behavior) for individuals with developmental
disabilities and language delays, and (2) functional assessment and treatment of severe behavior
disorders. Related to the second area of emphasis, Einar has also studied and written about procedures
to prevent challenging behavior through environmental arrangements and skill-building. This work is
based on the general idea that enriched and supportive environments, along with an emphasis on
teaching functional communication, cooperation, social interactions, and other adaptive skills will
reduce the likelihood of challenging behavior. In recent years, Einar has shifted his emphasis to studying
and implementing organizational systems that promote staff and client well-being at organizations that
serve individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders.
In his spare time, Einar is a music geek who enjoys playing guitar and occasionally other instruments. He
is devoted to music discovery and exploration, and is known to annoy his friends by constantly sending
them links to weird songs, often in foreign languages.
